Margaret Mead Commemorative Neckpiece

Commemorating Margaret Mead. Fine silver, bronze, brass, porcelain, copper, coral. 1983. Created with grant funds from NJ State Council on the Arts. Neckpiece woven in Polynesian style, adorned with South Seas’ shell forms. Charms representing images relating to Mead’s life: stages in a woman’s life– infancy, adolescence, maternity. Locket representing sarong Mead wore in photo with her Samoan “sister.” Forked staff carried in later life, book for her intellectual contributions.
